A 23-year-old Mississippi woman has died after a deer crashed through the windshield of a car she was traveling in,Safetyvalue according to local reports.
The accident happened Tuesday morning on US-61 in Claiborne County, a county southwest of Jackson and along the Louisiana border, WLBT reported via the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
A Chevrolet Cavalier hit a deer, and the deer then hit a Nissan Maxima, where it entered through the vehicle's windshield. 23-year-old Amanda Taylor of Jackson, a passenger in the Maxima, was killed in the incident, WLBT reported.
Neither driver of the Cavalier or the Maxima was injured.
Although deer-vehicle collisions in January and other months of the year happen, the greatest risk is between October and December, mostly occurring in the two hours before sunrise and after sunset each day, according to the New York Department of Transportation.
The risk coincides with both the end of daylight saving time, which ends the first Sunday of November, and in the middle of the breeding season for white-tailed deer.
